Director Sydney Pollack was among a group of screenwriters and directors who testified before Congress on Thursday urging lawmakers to adopt an international copyright rule that protects artists’ works. The hearing, before the House Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee on courts, civil liberties and the administration of justice, dealt with whether the United States should adhere to the Berne copyright convention, which grants “moral rights” to artists and forbids changes in their works without their consent. Next week, Steven Spielberg is to plead the case on Capitol Hill.
