Claremont : Schools Study Drug Efforts

To determine whether teachers and administrators are doing all they can to fight drug abuse in Claremont schools, the school board last week directed the District Advisory Committee to conduct a comprehensive study and issue a final report in June.

The committee, composed of parents and members of the district’s staff, will examine the drug education programs and enforcement policies of Claremont’s schools and compare them with those of districts throughout the state.

Board member Judy Cody, who introduced the proposal along with colleague Sue Keith, said the key questions are: “Are we on top of substance abuse education for our students? Are you effective if you have more arrests or fewer arrests among students? Are you effective if more of your students are entering recovery programs?
