VIDEO CHARTS

“Burglar,” the comedy-mystery starring Whoopi Goldberg and Bob Goldthwait, got off to a fast start on the Billboard magazine video rental chart, entering at No. 11. This one should at least crack the Top Five. Goldberg, a big star in the rental market, has two other movies on the chart--”The Color Purple” (No. 10) and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” (No. 28), which has been on the chart for more than four months. Two other chart newcomers--”Blind Date” (No. 14) and “Some Kind of Wonderful” (No. 15)--should make the Top 10 in the next week or two.
“An American Tail” continues to lead the sales chart and may stay there until mid-October, when another feature length cartoon, “Lady and the Tramp,” will be a likely replacement. Other sales charts: “Golf My Way With Jack Nicklaus” and Bob Mann’s “Automatic Golf” top the recreational sports chart; “The Doors: Live at the Hollywood Bowl” is the best-selling music videocassette.
* This fantasy-screwball comedy about an Egyptian princess who returns to Earth as a department-store dummy--that comes to life only for the window-dresser she loves--was an out-of-left-field hit in the theaters, racking up more than $40 million. Now “Mannequin” is an instant rental hit as well, debuting at No. 6.
