Laurie Dickey, a graduate of Hollywood’s Immaculate Heart High School who will be a UCLA freshman in the fall, has been named the winner of the Jackie Robinson Memorial Scholarship.
The four-year, $16,000 scholarship has been awarded annually since 1978.
Grants go to high school students for academic accomplishments, community service and potential for success. Sponsors are the Jackie Robinson Foundation and the Chesebrough-Pond’s Scholarship Program. Scholarships are coordinated through the office of the UCLA vice chancellor of student affairs.
The Westchester Majors, an all-star girls Little League softball team, won the District 37 championship to advance to this week’s sectional tournament in Redondo Beach.
Team members include Sarah Alquiza, Jennifer Baezewski, Michelle Barnes, Shannon Bartch, Christina Davis, Kathy Davis and Stephanie Drago.
Others are Kacey Eltiste, Mendy Hunter, Dawn McNairy, Debbie Rosales, Kathy Segal, Christie Simon and Hillary Turple.
Team manager is Mel Eltiste and Ed Simon is the coach.
