Over 500 Bicyclists to Vie for Titles in Mountain Race

More than 500 amateur and professional men and women bicycle racers will compete for $5,000 in prizes and the titles of “King and Queen of the Mountain” in Palos Verdes Aug. 3 at 7 a.m.
The eight-mile course begins and ends on Silver Spur, near the Red Onion restaurant, and includes a 2 1/2-mile climb up Crenshaw Boulevard.
The competition is broken into six categories: two divisions of pros who will do nine laps (72 miles); the veterans and juniors who will do four laps (32 miles), and a lower division and women’s branch, who will do three laps (24 miles).
