Deere Will Develop Twin-Rotor Engine

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Deere & Co., in an effort to diversify its farm implement business, has signed a multimillion-dollar deal to develop a rotary engine for the Marine Corps.
A Deere subsidiary signed the three-year, $33.5-million contract with the Marine Corps for more research and development of a rotary engine for possible use in amphibious assault vehicles.
The project involves Deere’s 750-horsepower, 5.8-liter twin-rotor engine.
The research work will be performed at the Wood-Ride, N.J., rotary engine division of Deere Technologies, with help from the technical center in Moline, Ill., and the product engineering center in Waterloo, Iowa.
