Reagan to Name Career Diplomat as New Lebanon Envoy

WASHINGTON — President Reagan will name John Hubert Kelly, a career Foreign Service officer, to be U.S. ambassador to Lebanon, the White House announced Thursday.
Kelly, 46, has held diplomatic posts in Turkey, Thailand and France. He also was senior deputy assistant secretary for public affairs at the State Department and principal deputy assistant secretary for European affairs. Currently he is assigned to the office of the undersecretary for management.
Kelly will succeed Reginald Bartholomew, who is being nominated as ambassador to Spain.
