The Nation : Lumber Agreement Gains

Tacoma, Wash.-based Weyerhaeuser Co. and representatives of about 6,500 striking members of the International Woodworkers of America reached tentative agreement on a new contract as the walkout that began June 16 entered its second month, federal mediators announced in Portland, Ore. Talks on local issues will be held today and union members are expected to vote on a new contract next week. Federal mediator Norman Lee declined to comment on the progress of negotiations with the Lumber, Production and Industrial Workers, which represents another 1,000 strikers. Details of the latest contract offer were not made public.
