A 23-year-old Compton gang member has been convicted of killing a Pacoima man who was shot to death last year while attending a car show at Hansen Dam Park.
Frederick Staves was convicted Wednesday of voluntary manslaughter after three weeks of deliberations by a jury, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. Cesar Sarmiento.
San Fernando Superior Court Judge Howard J. Schwab set sentencing for Aug. 25, when Staves faces a maximum term of 16 years in prison for the death of Rudolph Burks, 26.
The shooting occurred July 4, 1985, after a quarrel, police said.
