Team Added to NBC Sectional Event

The Simi Valley Raiders, a newly formed semipro baseball team, will play its first game today at 1 p.m. when it meets the Ventura County Royals (15-7) in the opening round of a National Baseball Congress-sponsored tournament at Ventura College.
The winner of the four-team double-elimination tournament will qualify for the NBC World Series on Aug. 1 in Wichita, Kan.
The San Fernando Valley Dodgers (10-4) will meet the Conejo Warriors at 10 a.m. in the other first-round game.
Losers of the first-round games will meet at 4 p.m. in the elimination round. The California State Southern Section Tournament continues Saturday and culminates with a championship game on Sunday.
Players on the Simi Valley roster include: Jeff Hoover (Royal High, Moorpark College), Jim Russo (Simi Valley High, Moorpark College), Glen Turnipseed (Moorpark College) and Tim Krebs (Royal High, Moorpark College).
