Hunt Runs San Diego’s Second-Fastest 25K

SAN DIEGO — Thom Hunt of Coronado ran the second-fastest 25-kilometer race in San Diego historySunday to win the San Diego Track Club’s 19th annual race at Mission Bay.
Hunt’s time of 1 hour, 18 minutes and 57 seconds has been bettered in the city only by Ed Mendoza’s 1:17.30 in 1974.
Jane Welzel of North Easton, Mass., won the women’s division in 1:42.22. Al Alcocer of Lakeside was the wheelchair race winner in 1:35.03, and Dale Sutton was the first race-walker across the finish line in 2:33.58.
Hunt outdistanced Ian Cumming (1:23.46) to win the men’s race, which served as the San Diego-Imperial Athletics Congress District Championship.
