‘PURPLE’ PROTESTS

Here we go again. The screen is filled with blacks singing, dancing, grinning and sinning.
All the favorite stereotypes are once again alive and well. The tyrannical, mean-spirited black male. Unfeeling and uncaring, whose only concern is sex, sex, sex. And let’s not forget the patient, long-suffering black woman victimized by her irresponsible and brutish man.
Blacks cuss, booze, frolic and plain raise hell in their whisky joint. They jump up and down, shout, and sing a rousing gospel song. Hallelujah! It’s “Green Pastures” all over again.
Can’t Hollywood make films about warm, loving black families? Aren’t their lives inspirational? Or is Hollywood worried that this won’t sell in Peoria?
For me, “The Color Purple” was not pretty.
