Girls’ Roundup : Fountain Valley Tops Compton

Jackie Cook, a senior center from Fountain Valley High School, scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds Saturday night to lead the Barons to a 67-54 win over Compton in a nonleague game played at Fountain Valley High.
The Barons improved to 7-1, with their only loss coming to Compton, the defending Southern Section 4-A champions, two weeks ago. The Tarbabes drop to 9-2. Melissa Handley added 14 points for Fountain Valley.
In Garden Grove Tournament action:
Magnolia 58, Upland 56--Michelle Carter, a 6-foot 2-inch senior center, scored 18 points and pulled down 18 rebounds, and Dawne Borum added 16 points to lead the Sentinels (5-2) to the win over the Highlanders for third place. Upland was led by Kristi Kaufman, who scored 22 points, and Kim Gessig, who added 18 points.
In Empire League action:
Cypress 50, Kennedy 30--Michelle Brooks scored 13 points and Diane Tohl added 10 points to help the Centurions defeat the Irish at Cypress High. The Centurions improve to 1-1 in league and 5-3 overall.
