San Diego Women’s Basketball : Hawaii Warms Up to Defeat USD

SAN DIEGO — The University of San Diego women’s basketball team got away with shooting less than 31% from the field in the first half, but when it almost duplicated the fete in the second half, the University of Hawaii finally took advantage of it.
USD squandered its 26-17 halftime lead and lost to Hawaii, 57-44, in a nonconference game Saturday at the USD Sports Center. Hawaii outscored USD, 12-3, to open the second half and tie the game at 29. Hawaii made 62.5% of its shots in the second half compared to USD’s 32%.
Tondi Redden led the way for Hawaii (4-4), scoring 14 points--7 of 7 from the field--and grabbing 6 rebounds. Alex Provencio scored 12 points and had a team-high 8 rebounds, and Da Houl added 10 points and 3 assists.
USD (4-5) was led by Debbie Theroux’s 11 points and 8 rebounds. Kelly Schroeder added 8 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
