New Law on Asbestos to Be Discussed
Contractors specializing in asbestos removal must be certified by the state’s licensing board, according to legislation that has become immediately effective under an emergency provision.
The legislation, AB-2040, was introduced by Assemblyman Gray Davis (D-Los Angeles), who will appear in a panel on Jan. 16 at a 6 p.m. dinner meeting of the Institute of Heating & Air Conditioning Industries at the Hyatt City of Commerce Hotel. The panel will discuss “Asbestos: An Update on Rules and Regulations.”
The new law exempts contractors whose work involves no more than 100 square feet. Other contractors must pass a written exam that is being developed.
