Final approval may take up to two years, and the drug will then be sold by prescription, Upjohn said. The Kalamazoo, Mich.-based pharmaceutical company said Regaine topical solution, which is applied externally, has been tested on about 4,000 volunteers. Preliminary data showed that about one-third of the test subjects had acceptable hair grown, one-third grew fine, wispy hair and one-third grew no hair, the company said.
