A Westminster pharmacist has been charged with defrauding the state’s Medi-Cal program of more than $48,000.
Gary Randall Toy, who owns the Medical Square Professional Pharmacy, was arrested Wednesday by investigators from the state attorney general’s office on suspicion of grand theft, forgery and 12 felony counts of filing false Medi-Cal claims. The charges were filed in West Orange County Municipal Court.
Investigators said Toy routinely added the drug Tagamet to prescriptions to be paid by Medi-Cal even though the drug had not been prescribed by physicians and was not received by the patient. Each such addition resulted in a $35 overpayment which allegedly totaled more than $48,000 in overpayments to Toy over a 37-month period.
