A survey said business will cut capital spending.

The Commerce Department said a survey conducted in late October and November indicates that businesses expect to cut spending on plant expansion and modernization by 1% next year, after taking into account the effects of inflation. That compares to a projected rise in investment spending of 5.6% for this year. The Reagan Administration called the latest survey’s findings too pessimistic, and some private economists agreed.
