MANILA — A ferry boat capsized and sank today in shark-infested waters in the South China Sea, and 197 people are missing and feared drowned, the Philippine News Agency reported.
Only three people were reported rescued after the ferry Asuncion sank off Mindoro Island about 100 miles south of Manila, a Philippine coast guard spokesman said. The spokesman said it was possible other survivors may have been rescued by passing ships.
