Two Ku Klux Klan leaders and four other persons pleaded guilty in Statesville, N.C., to federal civil rights charges in a series of cross-burnings designed to harass blacks and whites who associate with blacks. The pleas came just before the scheduled start of a trial of four of the defendants. The two other defendants had already agreed to plead guilty and testify for the prosecution at the trial.
