The Conference Board’s consumer confidence index rose to 92.1 last month from 89.9 in October. The index, based on a monthly survey, is pegged to a 1970 base of 100. “We are rather surprised that confidence is holding up well given the rather uninspiring economic environment,” said Fabian Linden, executive director of the business-funded group’s research control center. Only 8.8% of the consumers responding to the November survey said they think business conditions will worsen over the next six months. That was an improvement from October, when 11% expected business conditions to deteriorate.
