A-Test Linked to Star Wars Set

LAS VEGAS — A major underground nuclear weapons test believed tied to President Reagan’s “Star Wars” program has been scheduled for Thursday morning in the Nevada desert despite the objections of some members of Congress, officials said today.
The shot, code-named Goldstone, is designed to measure the intensity and ability to focus laser beams emanating from a nuclear explosion.
