BRUSSELS — Belgium’s most wanted man, Pierre Carette, and three armed accomplices were arrested in a fast-food restaurant Monday in a major breakthrough against urban guerrilla violence, Justice Minister Jean Gol said.
Carette is suspected of leading the Fighting Communist Cells (CCC), an extreme leftist group which has claimed responsiblity for 27 bomb attacks on North Atlantic Treaty Organization, U.S. and Belgian establishment targets over the last 14 months.
The four suspects, all carrying guns, were seized in the southern town of Namur by 30 heavily armed plainclothes policemen, witness Eric Goossens said. They offered no resistance.
