BOCA RATON, Fla. — Mac O’Grady and Tom Sieckmann shot a tournament-record 13-under-par 59 Thursday, including a string of eight straight birdies, to take a two-shot lead over Jim Colbert and Tom Purtzer in the first round of the $550,000 Team Invitational golf tournament at Boca West.
O’Grady and Sieckmann, playing on Course No. 3, birdied Nos. 1 and 3, eagled No. 5, then birdied Nos. 9 through 16 before finishing with a birdie on No. 18.
The previous low score in the three-year-old best-ball tournament was a 60 by John Adams and Rod Nuckols in the second round last year.
