A young murder suspect was shot to death by detectives as he leveled an Uzi semiautomatic weapon at them after other officers rammed his car, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said today.
Verlin J. Caldwell, 19, was fired on by seven detectives as he jumped out of his car, which had been rammed by an unmarked police car moments before at the intersection of Colden Avenue and Hoover Street last night. Caldwell, believed to be a street gang member, had been sought by police since Sept. 10 as a suspect in the shotgun murder of Darrel Taylor, 21.
