WASHINGTON — The Pentagon said Thursday it has activated eight phone lines for use by the families of soldiers assigned to the Sinai peacekeeping force who died in an air crash in Newfoundland.
The phone circuits are being manned by Army casualty officers and include two toll-free lines as well as special lines at Ft. Campbell, Ky., where the soldiers, members of the 101st Airborne Division, were based.
The toll-free line for all of the United States except Virginia, including Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico, is 800-255-2769, the Army said. The toll-free number for Virginia is 800-468-7786.
In addition, family members may call the Army Casualty Desk, collect, at 703-325-7576.
The Pentagon said the Army has also activated a special family assistance group at Ft. Campbell. Five lines are in operation there, all in area code 502. Those numbers are 798-5133, 798-5330, 798-2816, 798-3528 and 798-3943.
