Atty. Gen. Edwin Meese III was formally asked under the Ethics in Government Act by the House Judiciary Committee to seek a special prosecutor to investigate possible wrongdoing by Reagan Administration officials in a dispute over Superfund documents. Committee Chairman Peter W. Rodino Jr. (D-N.J.) wrote Meese that a special prosecutor is especially needed in this case because some of the allegations involve former Justice Department officials.
