Yelena Bonner

Now that Yelena Bonner had left the Soviet Union, maybe someone will tell her smoking cigarettes is bad for her heart and her health.
The press highlighted her months of struggle to leave the Soviet Union for the West so that she could eventually come to the United States for treatment of her “heart problem.”
In almost all photos appearing in the press and on television she is holding a cigarette--smoking. She has been quoted saying, “In May 1983, I had a heart attack and I have had no modern medical care.” Here in the U.S.A. maybe the American Lung Assn. can provide her with some “modern” information on the evils of smoking cigarettes.
