Israeli Spying on United States

So, Israel has been spying on us! Wonderful gutsy little Israel, our brave and invaluable ally and the “only legitimate democracy in the Middle East” has been spying on us! What a surprise! Surely there must be a misunderstanding. If not, surely we can overlook this minor misbehavior undoubtedly undertaken at the initiative of overzealous low-level officials without the knowledge or authority of the higher-ups who drink and eat and hobnob with our “leaders.”
After all, we overlooked the time they attacked our naval vessel Liberty and killed 31 American sailors in 1967.
Mistakes do happen. To err is human, and we shouldn’t let them damage our wonderful relationship with this bastion of freedom and recipient of one-third of our total foreign aid for the entire world. Especially when we have gained so much from the relationship! Not just strategically, but more importantly in terms of our international reputation for justice and fair play, not to mention the way this alliance has contributed to our popularity throughout the vital Middle East.
