House Panel OKs Indian Gambling Commission

WASHINGTON — The House Interior Committee approved by voice vote Wednesday legislation to create a federal commission to regulate commercial gambling on American Indian reservations.
The measure would empower the proposed seven-member commission--rather than individual states--to allow Indians to operate ventures such as horse and dog tracks on tribal lands.
