Orange : Fortune-Telling Ban Repealed by Council
- Share via
In the wake of a state Supreme Court decision, the City Council has repealed a ban on fortune-telling but then adopted a 90-day moratorium so that the city can set up guidelines for such activities.
Like other cities across the state, the city repealed its fortune-telling restriction in line with a state Supreme Court opinion that municipal ordinances banning such activities were unconstitutional. Orange has received one application for a fortune-telling permit, according to a city spokesman.
In other action at this week’s meeting, the council delayed indefinitely ruling on a request to rezone a 26-acre area west of Tustin Street so that condominiums could be built on the site of the Santiago Golf Course.
A decision on the development, opposed by homeowners near the golf course, has been delayed several times since the request was first made in September.
