The City Council has awarded a $21,000 engineering contract for redesign of a problem intersection in Malaga Cove where traffic accidents between 1981 and 1983 claimed three lives. The contract went to Greiner Engineering and Basmaciyan-Darnell Inc., which will propose various design alternatives for the triangular intersection where Palos Verdes North and Palos Verdes Drive West meet. Street widening and installation of a median are contemplated.
Long a difficult intersection, it was rebuilt a decade ago but still needs improvement, the city said. The city plan to have work under way on the $360,000 project by summer.
