No More Free Playboys, Penthouses for Inmates

RALEIGH, N. C. — The state of North Carolina said Tuesday that taxpayers no longer are going to pay for subscriptions to Playboy, Penthouse and Players magazines for free distribution to prison inmates.
Corrections Secretary Aaron Johnson made the decision after learning that the state prison system’s 207 subscriptions to the magazines, which cost $5,183 annually, were about to expire.
