Harvard Gets $5 Million for Public Affairs Center

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Harvard University announced Tuesday that it has received a $5-million gift to establish a center for the study of the press, politics and public policy.
The money was donated by Walter H. and Phyllis J. Shorenstein of San Francisco in memory of their daughter Joan Shorenstein Barone, a journalist who died in March.
The center, which will open in 1986, will also offer intensive courses for reporters, editors and news executives about complex government processes and policy issues.
