Lotus agreed to buy a Pasadena software firm.

The Cambridge, Mass.-based company said it signed a letter of intent to acquire GNP Development, which is developing a natural language product. The agreement gives Lotus exclusive rights to the product, which allows customers to use Lotus’ 1-2-3 software program by typing everyday English commands into the computer. The closing is set for Jan. 31, at which time the purchase price will be disclosed.
