Soviets Concede a Few AIDS Cases

MOSCOW — The Soviet Union admitted Saturday that there are cases of AIDS here but said there are fewer than 10 victims and did not say if any have died.
The disclosures about acquired immune deficiency syndrome in an article in the newspaper Sovietskaya Kultura reversed official reports two months ago that there were no Soviet AIDS cases and that the disease results from Pentagon-inspired experiments.
The article made clear to Soviet readers that the disease mostly affects homosexuals and drug users, two social groups hardly ever mentioned in public here. Both practices are illegal in the Soviet Union and carry prison sentences.
