Ashton-Tate finished its purchase of Multi-Mate.

The big Torrance-based developer of software for personal computers paid $22 million in cash for Multi-Mate. The previously announced deal gives Ashton-Tate a successful word-processing program, called Multi-Mate, broadening its line from the existing dBASE and Framework software programs. Multi-Mate International will continue to operate under current management from East Hartford, Conn., as a wholly owned unit of Ashton-Tate.
