Tubbs-Witherspoon Fight Jan. 17 at Atlanta

ATLANTA — Promoter Don King announced Wednesday that World Boxing Assn. heavyweight champion Tony Tubbs will defend his title against former World Boxing Council titleholder Tim Witherspoon at the Omni on Jan. 17.
King, accompanied by former WBC heavyweight champion Larry Holmes, made the announcement in the office of Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young. He said the bout will celebrate the birthday of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Jan. 15.
The Tubbs-Witherspoon fight will be televised by Home Box Office.
