NEW YORK — Anne Baxter, whose career has spanned nearly 50 years and included an Oscar, a best-selling book and a starring role on TV’s “Hotel,” was unconscious and near death today after suffering a stroke while walking to her hairdresser.
Baxter, 62, was in critical condition in the intensive care unit of Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan with her three daughters--Katrina, Melissa and Maginel--at her bedside, a hospital spokeswoman said. The actress collapsed Wednesday morning on Madison Avenue while on the way to her appointment.
