New Mayor Named: Michael J. Beverage changed hats this week and became the city’s mayor for the next year. Councilman Irwin M. Fried will replace Beverage as mayor pro tem. Beverage, who was elected to the council in 1982 and will be facing reelection next year, was elected mayor on a 3-2 vote, with council members Fried and Henry Wedaa opposed. He replaces Gene Wisner. Fried, who was first elected councilman in 1976 and whose term ends in 1988, was selected mayor pro tem on a unanimous vote.
