Newport Beach : Power Outage Affects 3,500 Homes, Businesses
- Share via
Equipment failure at a Southern California Edison Co. substation in Newport Beach was blamed for a power outage Tuesday morning affecting an estimated 3,500 homes and businesses on Lido Isle and Balboa Peninsula, company officials said.
Electricity went out at 9:41 a.m., said Fred Mickelson, Edison’s operations manager for the Orange County area. By rerouting electricity from other areas, Mickelson said power was restored to 50% of the affected customers by 11:08 a.m. All were back in service by 11:29 a.m.
Mickelson said equipment was being examined to determine the cause of the outage. But he was skeptical that water seepage from recent storms could have been a factor in the sealed building.
