Standard-Pacific Corp. officials in Costa Mesa vigorously denied Friday that the company planned a new stock offering, a rumor that apparently triggered a 1 5/8-point drop in the home builder’s stock last week.

The decline in the price of the stock, which closed at $20.50 Friday, confounded company officials because it came just days after Standard-Pacific announced record profits of $4.2 million and sales of $65.9 million in its second quarter.

PacifiCare Health Systems of Cypress said it will begin a health maintenance organization in San Antonio. PacifiCare of Texas was established as a joint venture with the Diagnostic Clinic of San Antonio, a 24-physician group practice. PacifiCare President Terry Hartshorn said the new HMO is expected to begin operating by the first quarter of 1986, following licensing by the state. Hartshorn said the San Antonio market is excellent for HMO growth because less than 5% of the 1.2 million residents belong to a HMO. PacifiCare owns and operates a 105,000-member HMO in California and recently began HMO operations in the Portland, Ore., area.

ClothesTime Inc., an Anaheim discount women’s clothing retailer, on Friday announced a 3-for-2 split of its common stock, effective Aug. 5., for shares held on that date.

The contracts were a two-year $750,000 agreement with CIE Systems of Irvine, a $6.25-million sale to Franklin Telecommunications in Westlake Village, a $1.75-million agreement with Lesmicro P.C. of Canada, a $750,000 deal with Micro Five of Costa Mesa, a $6.25-million sale to Mitsuba Corp. in San Dimas and a $750,000 agreement with Pertec of Irvine.
