The state Department of Commerce said 301 firms selected California for business growth during the first half of the year, 141 more than in the same period a year earlier. The department said the new business growth is expected to generate 108,102 jobs--30,887 directly and 77,215 indirectly--and result in nearly $1.2 billion of investment. During 1984, California attracted 415 companies with expansion and new location plans--more than any other state, the department said. Of the 301 companies that selected California this year, 204 announced their plans during the second quarter.
