QUINCY, Mass. — General Dynamics will close its 101-year-old shipyard here next year, leaving the yard’s 2,300 remaining employees jobless, the company said Wednesday.
Gary Grimes, vice president and general manager of the shipyard, said the closure will occur next spring.
The Quincy shipyard, founded by the side of the Fore River in 1884, began reducing its work force in May, down from 5,300. In its heyday during World War II, the plant employed 32,000 workers.
