A 22-year-old Fresno man died late Friday night after he was thrown from his car when it struck the center divider of the Golden State Freeway near Newhall, the California Highway Patrol said.
The driver, identified as Stephen M. Rystad, was hit by one or more vehicles in the southbound lanes of the freeway near the Antelope Valley Freeway around 11:20 p.m., officer Robert Pike said.
Rystad was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pike said a van driven by Ram Singh, 38, of Burbank apparently struck Rystad, but other vehicles also may have been involved.
Singh, who was not injured, is the only witness who stopped, but he does not speak English, Pike said.
The Highway Patrol is seeking other witnesses.
