Concern and anger prompt this letter regarding Dennis McDougal’s article, “The Famine Tour” (July 7).
Concern, because in his apparent need to write from such a negative point of view, as well as his insensitivity and cynical Hollywood mentality, he did great disservice to USA for Africa.
Indeed, he chose to create a Hollywood script whose characters were portrayed as emotionless, self-serving do-gooders racing around in Mercedeses, attending garden parties, receptions and various ceremonies that had been arranged (may I stress) by their hosts in Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania.
McDougal’s cynicism destroys our hopes and dreams. So, in response to his cynicism, I say, “Let’s praise these individuals everywhere who work in the cause of human dignity and suffering. Long live USA for Africa!”
