Pepperdine’s Brad Bierley and Scott Marrett are among 14 players selected nationwide to Baseball America’s 1985 All-America team.
Bierley, who was the West Coast Athletic Conference player of the year, led WCAC champions Pepperdine with a .354 batting average, slugged a school-record 27 home runs and had 76 RBIs. The senior center fielder, a fifth-round draft choice of the Minnesota Twins, is now playing for Visalia in the California League.
Marrett, who was the WCAC’s pitcher of the year, posted a spotless 15-0 mark with a 2.08 earned run average. The junior, a fourth-round draft selection of the California Angels, has been assigned to Redwood in the California League.
Pepperdine, ranked No. 8 nationally by Baseball America last year, finished with a 52-15-1 season record. The Waves were eliminated from the West I Regionals by Stanford, 7-1.
