SportsScope : U. of La Verne Hires Chino High Cage Coach
- Share via
Robert Elder, who coached the Chino High School boys basketball team for 10 years, has been named men’s basketball coach at the University of La Verne.
Elder, 38, replaced Jack Smith, who resigned after the Leopards finished with a 1-25 record last season, worst in the school’s history.
It will be a homecoming for Elder, who received a bachelor’s degree from La Verne in 1970 and was an assistant basketball coach there. Elder also has coached at Don Lugo High in Chino.
Gregg Green has been named Elder’s assistant. Green, 29, has coached at Chino and Loara (Anaheim) high schools and is a graduate of Cal State Los Angeles.
