Jesse Owens Track Meet--Several local athletes have qualified through regional competition to compete in the National ARCO-Jesse Owens Track Meet. The meet will be at UCLA next month. Representing Bellflower will be Pros Chane in the 100 meters and Wendy Aguayo in the softball throw, while Jennifer Gonzales of Cerritos has qualified in the 400 meters.

Winter Hired by Bulls--Former Cal State Long Beach basketball Coach Fred (Tex) Winter has been hired as an assistant coach by the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Assn. Winter, 61, has been a college coach for 32 years and also was an NBA head coach with the Houston Rockets for two years. During the past two seasons Winter has been an associate coach at Louisiana State University. Winter compiled a 78-69 record at Cal State Long Beach from 1978 to 1983.
