First Interstate set ties with a Chinese bank.

The Los Angeles-based bank said it had signed a “business cooperation agreement” with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. First Interstate said the agreement was the first such pact signed by the Chinese bank with a foreign institution. The two banks are partners in a joint-venture leasing company based in Peking. ICBC is the largest bank in China, with assets equivalent to about $100 billion.
